Grant Funding for Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland Businesses - Phase 2 Now Open

Newcastle Tyne Bridge

Great news for businesses in Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland! The North of Tyne Business Support Fund (NoTBSF) has officially launched its second phase, providing an invaluable opportunity for local businesses to access funding aimed at driving growth and improvement.

This grant programme is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, in collaboration with NBSL and the North East Combined Authority. The fund supports businesses in accessing external expertise to tackle challenges, enhance their operations, and plan for long-term success.

What Funding is Available?

The NoTBSF offers up to 50% funding for business improvement projects valued between £3,000 and £8,000 (excluding VAT). This funding can offset significant costs and help businesses afford projects that will create jobs, safeguard existing roles, and secure growth in an increasingly competitive landscape.

Eligible Projects

The funding supports a wide range of improvement projects, including but not limited to:

  • Business Growth Planning – Crafting strategies to expand operations or enter new markets.

  • Web Design and Development – Building or enhancing your online presence.

  • Marketing Strategy Development – Creating targeted campaigns to attract new customers.

  • Process Improvement Systems – Increasing efficiency in daily operations.

  • Financial Restructuring – Strengthening your business’s financial foundations.

  • Product Development – Diversifying or improving your products.

  • Human Resources Strategy Planning – Developing forward-thinking HR plans.

  • Video Production and Animations – Creating visually engaging marketing materials.

These are just a few examples, so if you have a project in mind that’s not listed, reach out to discuss its eligibility.

Who’s Eligible?

Businesses must meet the following criteria to qualify for the fund:

  • Be based in Newcastle, North Tyneside, or Northumberland.

  • Be trading and classified as an SME with fewer than 250 employees.

  • Have plans for growth, such as job creation or sustaining current roles.

  • Have not received more than £315,000 in combined government support within the applicable limits.

Applications are open now, with businesses encouraged to act quickly as demand is expected to be strong. All projects must be completed within three months, with claims submitted by February 2026 at the latest.

Eligible Projects

The funding can be used to support a wide range of high-impact business improvement initiatives, including:

  • Business Growth Planning: Develop comprehensive strategies to grow your operations and increase profits.

  • Performance Improvement: Streamline processes, increase efficiency, and maximise profitability.

  • Business Strategy Development: Define clear goals, outline actionable steps, and create robust business plans.

  • Marketing and Web Development: Enhance your online presence to attract more customers or reach new markets.

  • Financial Restructuring and Change Management: Adapt to evolving business needs and strengthen your financial health.

If you’re not sure whether your project qualifies for support, don’t hesitate to ask questions. Many potential projects can align with the programme's objectives with the right guidance and framing.
